Arne Jacobsen’s Designer Chairs
During his long and productive career, Arne Jacobsen had many achievements which made him a big name in the fields of architecture and design. But, when it comes to the latter, it’s his chairs that he is best known for. As the artist behind some of the most famous designer chairs, Jacobsen’s work remains synonymous with modern Danish and Scandinavian design.
The Egg and The Swan
Jacobsen’s most famous chair designs certainly include the ‘Egg’ and the ‘Swan’, widely considered to be among the greatest classics of Danish design. While originally designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in 1958, both chairs achieved great success, both in Denmark and internationally.
Series 7 (3107), the Drop and the Ant
Aside from lounge chairs, the list of Arne Jacobsen’s most popular furniture also includes dining chairs. The most iconic of those certainly are his ‘Series 7’ chair, the ‘Ant’, and somewhat more unconventional, the ‘Drop’. All of those were originally designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in 1958.
Still in production today, the beautiful ‘Series 7’ or the ‘Ant’ can give your dining room a completely classic, yet exciting look, while the ‘Drop’ might be more suitable for a conference room with a modern look to it.
Proportions and Details
In all of his designs, Jacobsen paid special attention to details and proportions. Nothing about his unique furniture has been left to chance – the beautiful proportions of the designs draw inspiration from nature and combine it with sharp modern trends, resulting in a unique modern design that is, even today, state of the art.
A Chair for Every Room
Arne Jacobsen’s chairs, with their unique modern look and elegance that combine the features of lounge and dining chair providing comfort and fitting well with other furniture. But, while the ‘Egg’ or the ‘Swan’ might be the best choice for your home, the ‘Drop’ can find its place in the conference room and the ‘Oxford chair’, available both with a high and low back, might be that little something that your office needed.
